Concrete work in Matthews
Matthews is close enough to our base that we are often there the same week you call. The town has a well-established residential core with a lot of homes from the 1980s and 1990s, which puts most of the concrete squarely in replacement territory — driveways with map-pattern cracking, front walks that have settled at the joints, and patios that were never properly jointed and have split down the middle.
One thing we see repeatedly in Matthews and the surrounding southeast Charlotte neighborhoods is drainage-driven failure. Many lots here are relatively flat, and where a driveway or walk was poured without adequate fall, water sits on the surface. It works into the pores, freezes during a cold snap, expands, and lifts the top layer away. That is the surface scaling and pitting people describe as the concrete crumbling. The fix is not a thicker slab — it is getting the slope right the first time, which we set with the forms and verify before pouring.
We also do a good volume of patio and outdoor living flatwork here, often connecting a rear patio to an existing driveway or building a path around the side of the house. Those connections need expansion joints where new concrete meets old, otherwise seasonal movement transfers straight through and cracks one side or the other.
