Waxhaw and the surrounding Weddington and Marvin area is large-lot country, and that changes the shape of nearly every job. Driveways are long, often several hundred feet, and frequently curved. Homes sit well back from the road. Outbuildings, workshops and detached garages are common.
Long driveways demand consistency. The sub-grade and base have to be prepared to the same standard along the entire run, because a soft section two hundred feet from the house will fail exactly as fast as one at the entrance. Joint layout also has to be planned across curves so panels stay reasonably square instead of becoming long tapered wedges that crack across the middle. These are the details that separate a driveway that lasts thirty years from one that starts cracking in year six.
The terrain through southern Union County rolls noticeably, and retaining walls, stepped footings and terracing come up regularly.
